Absolutely. If someone pursues me and I don’t give any positive signal, but I don’t feel comfortable saying no because of their social status and power, chances are they’ll insist they had consent that whole time. Meanwhile, I’m fat and disabled, so I basically never have the social clout to pursue anybody. If I try, when I try, those same men who pursued me usually insist I’m misunderstanding the situation or even doing violence to them. Because my social role, from their perspective and society’s perspective, is to be the object of pursuit.
