Actually, the entire idea of resilience as a measure of comparison is extremely problematic. Victims are told to “build up our resilience” as though the problem is not buying enough spa days or self help books, rather than never getting justice. Placing the responsibility for preventing violence, or even recovering from it, on individuals, is a convenient way to absolve the community of its obligations.
