Actually, you’re factually incorrect.
Lady Gaga has fibromyalgia.
There is a famous model with an obvious skin condition.
There is a list of famous women who have found success in spite of speaking publicly about their mental illness.
Michael J. Fox? Hello?
You seem to want to have it both ways.
You both do.
You critique Western beauty standards when they restrict your own behavior, but embrace them to highlight the difference between Black women and disabled women or Black women and fat women.
Where does this leave Black women who are disabled? Or Black women who are fat or called fat for their natural body types?
Of course some Black women make it through. Yet these women also speak publicly about the colorism they face.
No matter how beautiful they may be.
I choose to listen to these women.
I also choose to listen to disabled women and fat women.
I choose not to refit cultural standards that ignore the possibility of intersectionality, or of collaboration between marginalized people.
You have the right to choose otherwise.
