ADA Compliance Laws: "Please, employer, if it's not too much trouble, would you sit down with your disabled employee and have a conversation about what they need from you? Then, at your leisure, maybe at some point, you could get around to accepting some documents from them that prove their disability..then making some tiny cosmetic changes to their work environment. Or not."

The laws basically only mean that we can't be fired precisely because of our disabilities. We can be fired using some other excuse, however, especially if the employer gambles on us not having the resources to sue them for ADA violations.

Basically, no one at the level of making actual laws cares about disabled people. Which sucks for them, because there's about to be a WHOLE freaking lot of us and they're going to have to figure out what to do with us.

SSDI for a single individual is still hovering at around $1500, which is still poverty-level.

Basically what disabled people need is a federal subsidy to support our earnings, depending on how badly our disability impacts our earning power over, say, any one financial quarter..but that's not how it works, unfortunately.
