Agree. Media is powerful and has been a tremendous rescue for me from some of the most troubling periods of my life. It has helped me survive.

Yet at the same time--did you know that most recent famous Jewish female characters on TV have been played by white actresses? The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel cast white actresses to fill all of their Jewish women roles. That show about hunting Nazis did not cast any young Jewish actresses. The miniseries about "what if Hitler won the war," that cast a white actress to play a Jewish character responding to the rise of antisemitism in America.

Even in "our" stories, we don't exist.

Jewish male characters often make their way into mainstream media as the somewhat repulsive comic relief. Unfailingly, they pursue white women.

It hurts.

However reading about colorism in the Black community has helped me to understand this kind of attitude towards Jewish women, and Jewish features, and darker-skinned/darker-featured Jewish women in particular. It helped me understand why my cousin Gabrielle, who is blonde and blue-eyed and thin and looks very white, is the darling of the family, and why they hate my WOC mother. Understanding why helps me remember it's not my fault.
