Agreed, but I think that unevenness in Shiv’s writing and perhaps some misogyny really showed towards the end. Why was she so angry and sad, exactly? She got out. She earned the fancy degree and the job and she had the social skills to marry anyone but instead chose Tom because why? He took a job with her father and stayed because why? Except that it makes good drama?
