Appreciate you asking in a genuine way.

First: the body positivity movement originated in fat activism, but is now primarily thin or average sized women posting selfies of their stretch marks on otherwise well-groomed middle class bodies.

I recently attended a body positivity class taught by an average sized, white, able bodied, conventionally pretty white women who has never been raped or had an eating disorder. She thinks I need “help”. That about sums it up.

To answer your question:

Fat activism is not about feeling good about our bodies. It’s about doctors and nurses expressing disgust for patients and regularly diagnosing us as “fat” rather than diagnosing our actual illnesses-which means we die. Fat people die earlier because we get crap medical treatment from medical professionals who report believing we are disgusting and lazy. Not because we avoid drs out of shame.

Not to mention: pig roasts, street harassment, 80% of hiring managers reported to a fairygodboss study that they wouldn’t hire a fat woman..etc.

Look it up.
