Definitely agree that Markle didn’t pass in terms of her public image. I think though that there is such pain in the historical memory regarding Blackness and passing and the loss of community members to the white community that her life feels built on bedrock inaccuracies. Being able to effectively fit in to the upper echelons of white folks involves a deliberate act of forgetting. Being willing to try so hard to literally be an ambassador and face of a racist institution like the royals…yeah. It felt a certain way.
