Generalizations are useful. We generalize in the English language all the time. And you surely know better than anyone how rare it is for men to step in.

Just imagine that when women say “men,” we really mean, men who are not like you.

Because that’s what we mean.

It’s just, most women have not met a man like you before. We wouldn’t say “horses” and mean “except winged Pegasus” for the same reason.
