I am officially a fan of violence. Smith used violence appropriately and correctly. He used violence as a correction to someone else' horrendous behavior. He used violence to humiliate someone who was waaaaay out of line. He used violence in a way that is not going to leave a lasting physical mark on Rock. He used violence in a way that made Rock think about his actions and come up with a real, genuine, impactful apology. He used violence in a way that made his own motivations clear to the audience watching.

This is an appropriate use of violence.
