Men do inhabit a world where most violent crime, rape, and murder is perpetrated by men. In addition, men are generally encouraged from boyhood to assert themselves, take up space with their anger, and act out when upset. The impact of these two facts is that women learn to manage our relationships with men to avoid what we experience as a threat of violence.

Men want the freedom of self-expression, as we all do. But that freedom comes at the cost of relationships and trust, unless it is tempered with self-awareness and empathy.
