I appreciated Fat Amy back when there were basically no fat women characters on TV at all. Now, however, she is starting to seem hopelessly reactionary.

Fat women lead all kinds of lives. Being fat can reflect anything from rape trauma syndrome, to depression, to diabetes, to an undiagnosed thyroid disorder. Being fat can happen as a result of undiagnosed and untreated physical diseases, or can be exacerbated by it, as happened to me and to many other women.

Yet barring the short-lived Dietland, the only representation I have personally ever seen on TV or in films is that of fat women who cannot control, or choose not to control, their appetites.

I'm a fat person, and I cannot relate to Fat Amy at all.
