I completely relate, and not just for romantic situations. I’ve lived with a series of housemates who remind me of, well, my father: men and the occasional woman or gender binary person who proved to have very specific requirements for my behavior, which they were happy to bully me or verbally and emotionally abuse me to make me do. People who rewrote history and created unlikely and basically nonsensical stories to explain why I was evil for not behaving as they wanted me to behave.

People should not try to control others.
