I definitely agree with your analysis. But I think it’s important to note the very real social costs of choosing to say no to gender norms. Women who are fat or disabled or Black pay an even bigger cost. If we choose to ignore gender norms altogether, we won’t achieve liberation, we will achieve unemployment and houselessness.

We have to know the rules and break them judiciously instead.
