I definitely second the idea of litmus tests for people you want to work with. But as a chronically ill person, I also want to add some further context because you don't always know what's going on in someone's life. I left projects or assignments in the middle when I was going through recurring bouts of infection, and didn't yet know what my illness was or how often it was likely to reoccur.
Chronically ill people, really all disabled people, often need clear structure, immediate returns, and other simple realities. We need investment from those we work with, in understanding how to work with us--not long conversations about what we need, but to be believed when we ask for what we need. We deserve to have the option to be trusted for what skills we can contribute.
