I disagree. Johnny Depp didn’t present his perspective four years ago and that’s on him. He wasn’t willing to describe himself as a victim and so he tried to bury it, and so her narrative was all we had to go on. She absolutely exploited #metoo for her own gain. But just because something can be exploited doesn’t mean it’s inherently useless or failed. #Metoo was necessary for many people who previously had no public voice with which to speak about sexual violence, myself included. Your analysis doesn’t recognize the power differential—between Heard and most women who used #metoo to free ourselves, or between women and men in society.
This is one example. It’s not a particularly indicative one.
