I don't disagree, but you have to learn assertiveness. Just because you don't have those skills doesn't give someone else the right to take advantage of you. I spent a lot of my life not being assertive as a result of being horrifically abused as a child. The fact I grew up being badly victimized by the people responsible for me doesn't make me a bad person or a "doormat," it makes me someone who grew up in hell. The fact that so many people were willing to retraumatize me says more about them than it does about me.

Moreover, now that I know how to stand up for myself, people still harm me when I push back! It's not like conflict leaves you along just because you learn how to navigate it and fight back.
