I don’t have any problems with white women writing books or screenplays about white girls and their challenges.
I do have a problem with consistently centering the stories of the girls with the least to lose, then calling them heroes.
If the girls with Moxie choose to create the zines and lead the protests, fine. But they have that choice because they are not also dealing with being a survivor of rape, or navigating intersectional oppression, or trying to get into college as a second generation member of an extremely white community.
Activists are very often those privileged enough to have the time, energy, and safety necessary to protest.
