I don’t think it’s wise to conflate empathy with human rights. I don’t give a shit if my male colleagues or acquaintances have empathy for my feelings. I care if they obey basic social codes and don’t put hands on me in public or without asking first, and stop when I tell them to.

I’m not interested in a conversation about what men “feel.” I’m interested in a conversation about social norms.

Empathy brings this conversation into the realm of feeling. That’s too easy. Stop.
