I feel this way about racism, sexism, bigotry of all kinds. If you don't like the way your partner approaches human relationships, if you feel they are abusive to other human beings--why are you with them? Why are these aspects of a person not considered good reason to dump them? Why do we stick around for other people's blatant cruelty and violence? And why do we always seem to think that the man who behaves cruelly towards others, who truly believes that violence towards 'people who deserve it' is morally acceptable, will never turn that same callousness towards us?
