I find that people are so prepped to forgive privileged people, men especially, that we turn ourselves into pretzels to believe them when they describe themselves as victims.

On the other hand, the rest of us are condemned before we open our mouths in most company. If I talk about my disability, I’m playing the victim; if I ask for help with the dishes because I’m sick for three months on end, I’m imposing.

I’m sick of being accused of playing the victim when I talk about challenges that would fell a lesser woman. You want to know what playing the victim looks like? Rich white men sobbing because someone dares point out they’re actually a rapist.

Once we deal with all of that, we can get to how people talk too much about our oppression.
