I have read all the books about why women speak up less at meetings. Socialization is real. I’ve written about that myself. I get it. But knowing that, women have to start interrupting men and interceding on one another’s behalf in the moment. Men just don’t care. They don’t. They’re not paying attention to whether they speak more. They don’t care if they’re being polite or nice to women. They’re getting no negative feedback in spaces they actually care about. So as much as I do understand and I absolutely have compassion for you, I’m also not going to hold your hand and tell you how awful it is that sexism continues. You’re right, it does. But giving men the ability to control whether or if it changes won’t make it better.
