I really loved reading this piece. I related to a lot of what you shared. The "tragic mulatta" is definitely an insult. It's also a 'controlling stereotype'--we're supposed to live within its boundaries. We're not supposed to find our voices and articulate what is happening to us and fight back. We're supposed to be cowed and scared and fade sadly into the margins and turn our anger inwards.
