I submitted an article about my experience navigating fatphobia to a fat positive blog I really liked, edited by a high-profile fat activist I respected.
Received a paragraph of feedback that seemed overly harsh for personal creative nonfiction and didn't make sense to me. Asked a question about it. Editor got snippy and told me to read the comments on my article before asking questions.
Told her I couldn't access the document or her edits. She tried to give me access and it didn't work. I told her what to click in google docs to give me permission. She took it as a negative correction of her.
After finally gaining access and reading over her corrections, I emailed her to tell her that the partnership wouldn't work and I didn't want to be published on her blog.
It's not okay for people to communicate that way. Especially when a writer makes ourselves vulnerable.
