I think it depends. What that person said to you is ridiculous. But at the same time, marginalized people are expected to be nice no matter how other people treat us. Learning to be mean on my own behalf is freeing. Otherwise, violence is done to us, but we’re expected to ignore it or rise above it no matter what.
