I think it’s weird that people can be so popular for basically structuring their entire lives around trying to be popular. On the other hand, that’s pretty much how popularity worked in high school. Girls worked hard at being pretty and liked, and guys worked hard at playing sports and being liked. Works for adult life too.

It’s awful, but it’s not new. It’s how being a Lord or Lady worked too. You’re born rich, or else you make rich people like you.
