I think the problem is that their bodies do not belong to them.

My generation was the girl power generation. We were taught that we could do anything and be anything. We were taught to claim our sexuality and embrace our capacity for pleasure..

And imagine our shock and disappointment when we discovered that it was all a lie.

Girls are not growing up in a world that gives them control over their bodies. Girls are growing up in a world in which they are statistically likely to be raped, sexually harassed, or beaten by a partner before they turn 20.

We should prepare them for the world they live in.

Giving someone the gift of self-esteem is not as important as giving someone the gift of the tools they need to survive.
