I think this attitude has its roots deep in Western history and assumptions about how men, particularly men with social status and class privilege, can and should behave. For thousands of years, men were told that sleeping with their pregnant wives was immoral, dirty, dangerous etc. Rich men were also told that cheating on their wives, particularly if it meant sleeping with "low class" women like prostitutes or women with less social status/wealth, was totally moral and fine. Those ideas persist. In their minds, it's not "really" cheating so long as they don't see the woman as being of equal social status or "value" to their wife. She's no 'threat', so why should his wife be upset?
