I think this is completely true.

Also--watch how people treat animals. I lived with a housemate who "bought a kitten to be her Covid comfort cat" and I watched her pick up that cat by the tail, mock him, and otherwise hurt him.

I treated that cat with respect and kindness.

By the time I left that house, the cat came running to my whistle every morning and climbed up my body to cuddle at my neck.

Housemate was not pleased. I did not care.
