I totally appreciate where you’re coming from. But part of the reason why we create social norms is to delineate comparisons between people’s experience. That way someone who steals can’t say, okay, but you looked at me funny the other day and really, that was as harmful to me as me stealing from you was to you. It’s so we can create rules of social order.
People might have individual experiences but when it comes to the distribution of resources, someone in the room has to know the difference. Someone in the room has to state that physical violence is dangerous in a way that annoying someone or even calling them names is simply not. Otherwise, anyone with entitlement issues will confidently assume their experience of harm is The Worst Ever.
