I truly think the men I grew up with believed up until, like, two years ago that they would just earn a bunch of money and be basically polite, and a hot model would pick them out of a crowd and want to marry them. They didn't just assume that's all it would take to be attractive; they assumed that's all it would take to be attractive to the most beautiful women in the world.
Now, men are expected to have actual emotional skills, and to consider romantic relationships with women at approximately their same socioeconomic and attractiveness level. They're appalled.
Women, in turn, are appalled to have to share the planet with these crazies.
