I’m glad you found the show useful, and I’m glad that BPD was humanized in this way. However, I think the show could have done both! There was an opportunity here to give Rebecca some BPD friends and show the diverse spectrum of the disorder. That also would have made Rebecca seem less “special” and more normal, which is the truth of psychological distress-it’s pretty normal, and pretty boring. Being herself in a group of selves would have forced Rebecca to be defined, and define herself, as more than her disorder.
It would have been a better BPD portrayal, but also just a better show.
