I think you're right. Throwing people together for such long periods of time, in such an isolated environment, is bound to bring out the worst in people. It's also really damaging when the showrunner's attitude is so entirely "my way or the highway." Look what happened to Katherine Heigl! Would I have wanted to play a woman fucking a ghost? No I would not. It's weird and icky. I think it's kind of awesome that she stood up for her character that way.
