Men have no problem understanding consent when it comes to themselves and their own boundaries. The problem is, they have very little ability to extrapolate that understanding to other people. Our attempts to teach men consent have resulted in a bunch of men running around shouting “you’ve violated my boundaries!” every time a woman tries to have a conversation they don’t want to have. We have not penetrated the basic narcissism and refusal to apply empathy or kindness that characterize male exploitation of women.
