Men seem to assume that women gain social status or clout by telling our stories of sexual assault. In reality, women are harassed, pathologized, shouted down, denied public space, pushed out of careers, and generally our lives are made a living hell, when we disclose. I've never encountered a situation outside of a television show where a woman's life improved after she reported a sexual assault.
