One very good point made in the book "Sexy but Psycho" is that many social workers send survivors of sexual assault or sexual abuse to psychologists specifically with the intention to get a diagnosis. They assume that having a psychological diagnosis will help their clients.

What actually happens is these dx's follow their clients around forever and further stigmatize them.
