PDA exists as a diagnosis with the assumption that making “demands” of someone from a position of power over that person is inherently right and just.
Most autistic people go through severe childhood trauma due to childhood bullying. Many of us are abused at home as well. To then characterize the normal depression and withdrawal that results from these circumstances as “PDA” fundamentally refuses to attribute responsibility for the harm done to Autistic people. Our communities harm us. Our parents harm us. When we grow up, our employers and “friends” harm us. Typically, they blame us for any attempt we make to seek redress for that harm.
