People who are very fragile about their unearned privilege respond to direct communication by freaking out.
I told someone recently that her assumption that I would move out of my living space with less than a week’s notice simply because she’d experienced a professional setback and was upset, was a ridiculous assumption fueled by her privilege. She responded by shrieking that I’d victimized her and getting me kicked out.
I told someone else recently that they needed to respect boundaries in place regarding communication over digital media. She insisted we were “having a conflict” and she “felt attacked” and she fled the scene.
These were terrible experiences, but I don’t regret speaking up for myself.
