The powerless always seek some power "for whatever messed up motive?"

How about, because a person needs power to survive, to thrive, to get a job, to rent an apartment or buy a house, to attract a spouse or send your kids to college?

People need power to function in this world. That's not sociopathic. It's adaptive.
