Those of us who looked much older than our age were doubly screwed. We were treated badly by men our age because they were intimidated by us and it made them cruel. Women of our age seized upon the weakness that cruelty caused and used it as reason to attack us.
So of course we went looking for safety, and often thought we found it in the romantic attention from older men.
They were just one more source of exploitation.
