WHAT. Honestly, I think some people understand perfectly well that Jews are a socially acceptable scapegoat and they just run with it.

The fact that in a world literally shaped by colonialism, where virtually every country on earth has either been victimized or been a perpetrator, some critics highlight Israel again and again as the ultimate example of a colonialist state, is a chosen gesture.

It makes white people more comfortable with an anticolonialist critique because they can fall back on blaming everything on Jews and seeing Jews as evildoers, rather than recognizing that they themselves live in colonialist states and benefit from colonialism.

Also, as a Jew who has been involved for much of my adult life in anti-Zionist organizing, I find it pretty frustrating when people conflate critiques of Israeli national policy with critiques of "all Jews, everywhere." Like--even the antiracist Jews? Even the Jews who are actively fighting Zionism? Even Jews of Color? It's mind-boggling.
