Being sick? Because if that’s where you’re going with this, then that’s an awfully insensitive and bizarre response.
Being unemployed?
I am employed, but like so many disabled people, I am underemployed, because the ADA is toothless since most of us don’t have the resources to sue every employer who violates it.
Being impoverished?
Pretty sure that if you were ill half the year, for your entire life, you wouldn’t be doing so hot either.
Recognizing the reality of cause and effect is not the same thing as refusing to take responsibility. I take responsibility for my own personal choices. I did not choose climate change, environmental devastation, sexual violence, child abuse, or the way all of these things combined impacted my body.
Recognizing my own limitations is also recognizing the limitations of my accountability. We are all permeable.
