Yes, excellent. I think in the past I’ve quickly become overwhelmed and created distance in unhealthy ways, but I’ve also watched potential partners become cruel and even emotionally abusive as soon as their own anxiety was triggered. I am learning slowly that healthy people do not become violent or abusive when I make a mistake, set a boundary, pull away, or respond to my own trauma in ways they find painful. Bottom line: I should not be afraid that if I accidentally hurt someone, they will assume I have done it on purpose and deliberately hurt me and/or use this behavior as evidence that I am a bad or undeserving person.
