You think it was a criticism of the trope?!

…has been a hot minute since I re-read it). And I loved it for the exact reasons you are describing. To me, the point of Alaska was always to critizise the Trope of the MPDG which I think John Green did wonderfuly (as you layed out here perfectly). Shame to the adaptation, if they don‘t make that point clear.
