I mean, there’s a fine line, of course.
I wouldn’t want to dismiss someone who’s truly suffering.
But at the end of the day, I think the bottom line is, who cares if it’s a “real” illness or not?
If he’s not willing to go to the doctor, he’s not going to get better.
If he’s going to insist on talking about his illness all the time with his partner against that person’s will, that’s unfair and obnoxious behavior.
Everyone has a responsibility to manage our own health to the best of our ability—or choose not to, and avoid impacting other people.
You’re not his mom.
Seems like you were way nicer than he had any right to expect for way longer than he had any right to expect.
