My mother has a PhD and she wound up working p/t for not much money so she could take care of us kids, which she hated. The community never really accepted her.

And it was made clear to me real quick that I was too smart, talented, and outspoken to be welcomed..but since I was a kid, I couldn’t really leave. At least, I didn’t feel like I could, especially with domineering parents.

Maybe not all religions are cults, but patriarchal religions are.
